My thoughts about teaching music

I am dedicated to facilitating the best possible practical education of cello to students.  I also recognise the importance of nurturing genuine enthusiasm and musical interest within pupils to enable them to have a platform of discovery and development.

I am experienced in communication to pupils of differing abilities, learning styles and personalities.  I have taught privately and at local schools in London and Yorkshire which has generated development from foundation stages of initial introductory theoretical and practical awareness through advanced stages of musical, technical and performance ability.  My lessons are differentiated to meet the needs of each student and I commit substantial time to preparation for lessons in order to deliver efficient and informed tuition that supports progress through varied teaching methods if required.

Preparation for Examinations, concerts, assessments and performances form a focused and motivating component of my teaching and a rewarding element of recognition in pupils’ progress.

Musical Experience

As a contemporary and classical cellist I have taken part in different ensembles such as improvisational, orchestral, chamber, contemporary and folk music at recitals, concerts and festivals for over ten years.  In 2005 I studied a degree in Music at Goldsmiths College, University of London specialising in cello performance and studio composition.  Since graduating I have been awarded a distinction in Trinity and Guildhall diploma qualifications and attended cello courses including; ‘Gathering of the Clans’ studying with Internationally acclaimed teachers, Alexander Baillie and Pierre Doumenge, Sue Lowe and Anna Shuttleworth.

Having gained a rich breadth of tuition and influence from many Internationally-acclaimed Tutors, I maintain the attributes of the very highest standards and methods of teaching within my profession.  I recognise the importance of studying musical instruments and how this experience can transform how individuals study all subjects.
