A new theory group run by Dominic will be starting from September 2010.
Exeter Young Strings offers a theory group to pupils who are around the grade 2 standard upwards on their instruments. This is a really good time to start studying theory and looking into how music works. To take the higher practical grades on an instrument, you need to have passed grade 5 theory. Pupils often leave studying theory until this point and then find it very difficult.
Studying theory from grades 1-5 makes it so much easier both in terms of playing and understanding the music on a whole different level. This enhances your ability to progress at a good speed and means that you don’t have to spend time fiddling around trying to work out something that an understanding of theory makes so much clearer. Being confident with musical notation and being able to sight read can make a great deal of difference to your enjoyment, so studying theory in the earlier grades is well worth considering.
The theory group is taken by Dominic and runs on Wednesdays in the Maria Montessori School from 4.10 - 4.50 pm. Please contact Kirsty if you would like to join.
