A Celebration of Kodaly Sunday, July 12, 2009

On the way home from Bournemouth today, I happened to catch this episode of the Choir on BBC Radio 3.

It provided an interesting introduction to the life and works of Kodaly and included a description of his groundbreaking Method of music education, which is also a key feature of the EYS approach to learning about music.

It was especially interesting to hear a Kodaly choir of school children demonstrating the Method to the pupils of a Primary school here in the UK. The central importance of music to all areas of education was explained, including the enhancement of mathematical skills through the recognition of patterns and the development of phonic awareness through attention to rhythm and rhyme.

The episode is available to listen to again for the next 7 days only on the BBC website at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00lk6vg
