We will try not to use the gnomes [cause the pixies will get upset], but you can expect lots of paroemia and sentenia in this blog. Well, probably more on cello’s, violins, basses and viola’s.

There is an aulternative to Associated Board Exams Tuesday, March 02, 2010
I’ve always used the associated board for exams, but I’m now really interested in trying out the Trinity Guildhall exams. They have some quite interesting options such one of your pieces can be your own composition. Lowena performed one of her compositions at the workshop and we were really grateful to Musicroom in Exeter for donating vouchers as thank you presents for Lowena and the 4 other children who performed.

BBC Radio 3 has been exploring the music of the Hungarian composer, Zoltan Kodaly in its daily ‘Composer of the Week’ slot this week. The five programmes are available to listen to again for a short time only on the Radio 3 website (click here) - they provide an interesting background to the importance Exeter Young Strings places on the consistent use of Kodaly’s method in developing musicianship skills in children.

Highlights of the BBC Proms Thursday, July 16, 2009
Tomorrow heralds the first night of the Proms, 2009. Anxious to note the best of the year’s concerts in my diary, I searched the online guide to discover the performances I really don’t want to miss (although I’ll be listening to them on BBC Radio 3, rather than making the trip up to London each week!). Starting with music for cello, here’s what I found ...
